Home Heating and Cooling 101

While the heating and cooling systems of our homes are usually from the point of view of our daily lives, it is important to keep our homes comfortable and safe.

Here is our short guide to the basics of heating and cooling:

1. There are three main types of heating and cooling systems for your home. One of them is the gravitational furnace system, the second type is radiant heating system, the third is called the air duct system, or "forced air".

2. Gravity furnace system conveys hot air from heater which is usually located on the ground floor or in the basement of many houses. This mechanism utilizes large channels and pipes to distribute heat and cold air throughout the house. Hot air rises through the system, as the air cools, it drowns, back to the oven to be heated, start the cycle again. This is also called central heating / cooling. Gravity oven can be operated through temperature control.

3. The second type of heating system called radiant heating systems uses water, electricity and hot steam. There is a central boiler system that warms the water and makes it move around pipes and pipes located all over your home, delivering heat to the rooms through the "radiator". As the water cools, it returns to be hot. Often an air conditioner can be installed in a window, to provide cooling for smaller areas of the house.

4. Another type of radiant heating system is the electrical radiation system. The electrical radiation system is usually installed with electrical resistance plates or has a system of cables and chips that are placed inside floors and ceilings, radiating heat in your home.

5. The third type of heating system is called air cooling systems air ducts. This type of system is common in residential homes because hot air can be delivered and cooled through air ducts system.

6. Ground heat or "heat pump" is a system that uses heat in the ground to provide both heating and cooling for the home. The pipe system goes to the ground in the yard. In the summer the earth is cooler than the air, so the heat pump cools your home by exchanging the warmer home temperature to cooler earth temperature. In winter, the earth is warmer than the cooler air temperature, so the systems extracts those heat to warm the house.

Knowing how heating and cooling systems work can help you make an informed decision about the type of system you want to buy for your home. You will need to consider which type is the most efficient, cost-effective system for your home. You will also need to find the right kind of heating and cooling system based on the climatic conditions of where you live.

Before making your final decision, talk to many heating and cooling professionals. Their experience can help you weigh the pros and cons of different systems for your particular situation.
